GAME DESIGN

TEAM SIZE:  7 persons

DURATION: 4 days (Mar 2015)

During one of Sheridan College's "Sprint Week" Challenges, we were tasked with designing a game for Holland Bloorview Kid's Rehabilitation Centre's Screenplay set up.

Screenplay is a pressure sensitive floor that allows anyone standing within the designated area to interact with what is on screen.  The design intent behind games for this platform were to allow those with disabilities or lowered mobility to be able to interact with the game and those around them.

This was an amazing opportunity that allowed us to learn how to design around certain parameters. For example, we needed to consider the context of play for these children and their families.

This meant that the setting mattered and the game needed to be enticing enough to encourage people to want  play and engage them long enough to keep them busy while in the waiting room but not so addicting that players will be disappointed if they needed to leave the game at any time.

In addition to these design parameters, we needed to keep the parents and staff members in mind as they are around the system on a regular basis.
